It is encouraging to see that more Muslim thinkers are now engaged with the topic of human rights. However, the question remains: is Islam really compatible with human rights?
I ask this question because of modern Muslims's struggles to fully embrace human rights norms. For instance, Turkey has been waiting for so long to join the EU in part because of that Muslim country's relunctance to do away with the death penalty. There are many other human rights that Muslims refuse to adopt, not just the death penalty.
